The thief loves you very madly
Whom you too love very deeply
Whosoever he may be
He’s the luckiest chap.
I really envy him.”
Prerna, ”He has never told me much about himself
But one thing is certain
For more than a hundred percent
That he resembles you in toto”
Mr. Jha,” Had I been a theif
I could have stolen your heart only,
Which to me is worth the whole world.”
Miss Prerna smiled and whispered
Into his ears
“Should I call you a chitchor?”
Mr. Jha,” What is a chitchor?”
Prerna said,”One who steals away heart only”
Both burst into laughter.
Mr. Jha said,”Do call me what you please,
I always want to see
You in cheers.”
Privacy unlocks the door
To the unconsciousness
And freedom adds fuel to it
Mr. Jha said,” For goodness’ sake,
Never disclose this,
Or the police will run
After me,
And you may also be prosecuted,
Owing to suppression
Of facts before the principal
Under C.r.p.c 282”
Prerna,” The Police or the court
May forgive me, but never these
Bloody rascals, my girl friends,
Who have declared their judgment,
And found me guilty
Of secret love.
They say that secret love
Is not allowed in medical manuals.
Mr. Jha , I am all alone
With none on my side,
It’s only you
Who can help me.
Would you please
Do me one favour?
For only this,
I was mad after searching you.”
Mr. Jha said,” I will consider myself much fortunate
If so trusted
To share with you
The pulls and pains of your life,
The fellow will be the luckiest one
Who gets your company, your moral support
Your love and sympathy.
How comfortable and charming
His voyage in life will be.
Miss prerna smiled a million-dollar-smile
And gazed and gazed
At the face of Mr. Jha
Mr. Jha felt uplifted and exulted indeed.
Before him a bud blossomed
Into a full flower.
“What have I to do for you?”, asked he.
Miss Prerna said,” Please search the boy
Who has done this mischief,
The principal has asked me
To name him.”
Both of them burst into laughter simultaneously.
“Only this much, I will do this in no time”
While departing,
Mr. Jha said,”Prerna,
If I am late,
Or you are in a hurry,
Never mind and never bother,
Do what I tell,
Do report my name
To the principal,
I will Put up with the punishment,
But I can assure you
That your girl friends
Will be much happier,
And never tease you again
In future.
I can tolerate everything
But your tears.
Please send for me,
Or knock at my door personally,
When you sense any trouble,
I am always with you,
I have gained something
So invaluable
Which I am sure
You, too, won’t like to lose.”
Love purifies the Mind
And dedication the soul,
And where these two meet
Even God envies the man
Mr. Jha found her,
Always amidst girls, never alone
To intimate
The prospect of love
Except her well-beings
Which she always responded to
With a very sweet smile.
In love distance brings two
Hearts much closer
Than closeness itself can.
While doing houseman-ship
she was there in women’s hospital,
in the dept. of Gynaecology
and Mr. Jha in R.S.B.
In the dept. of general surgery
Her close friends,
Shani Rahu and Ketu
Were working in different deptts.
And were very busy with their works
Tightly scheduled.
Dr. Jha would go
To Prerna only to have a chat
When he was off duty,
And in a relaxing mood.
For Dr. Jha Prerna alone
Was the fountain source of all
happiness.
Once it so happened
That Prerna being away from the hospital
For about a fortnight
Made Dr. Jha terribly restless
Not to find her anywhere in P.M.C.H.
When Mr. Jha came to know
That she had reported for duty
He couldn’t but rush
Straight to her ward
Only to ask,”Prerna,
Where have you been
For such a long time
I was not feeling well
At all without you.
I feel and fear
That life without you will be
Burdensome and boring.”
She smiled with tears,
But could not let anything out
Only to refrain from hurting his feelings.
But it was only her eyes and face
which could whisper
into Dr. Jha’s eyes a lot of things,
which he was not ready to believe
where no word is uttered
ears stop to work
but eyes come to take over
Dr. Jha insisted time and again
On opening her heart out to him
As he was non-else but her true well wisher,
At last she exposed her father’s view
About her marriage
In a choked voice,
And with a broken heart.
You need not worry at all,
Everything will be okay.
The delay aroused
Suspicion and anger in him.
Nothing hurts more than
A delay
To a fast and
Ambitious mind
Dr. Jha said,” Please,
I am really hacked off,
I feel everything is
Not okay with you.”
Prerna spoke feelingly and exposed
Her father’s view and who had been
Downright rough and rude to her
During her whole stay at home,
“I had been away for home
As my mother was ill, I am sorry
I couldn’t find time to inform you.
You know my mother is
Living in Madras,
And my father is working at Bhilai
As superintending engineer
He is a man of very obstinate nature,
And he is not in the habit
Of listening to others,
He is not liberal
Even to my mother.
He is forcing me to marry
To a well settled engineer
Under him,
But I don’t agree at all,
I have told him clearly
I can marry only
The doctor of my choice
But he is still adamant
On and stuck to his own views.”
Tears rolled down
Upon her cheeks
“Mr. Jha, I am
Completely at a loss,
Please do tell me
What I should do,
I am standing
On the road of life
Where it bifurcates
I don’t know which way to go.
Mr. Jha could understand
Only to see her in tears.
Prerna said,” My dad wants me to
Marry in the same caste, culture and customs,
Language and state.
He has a very ugly
Picture of Bihar in his mind
He is hesitant.
Even to a good doctor of Bihar.
In my dad’s opinion,
You love my wealth,
not me”
Dr. Jha felt as if a big glassware were thrown
from above to the ground.
He became unstable for a short while
and felt giddy.
The very next moment he gathered courage and
Dr. Jha felt as if a big glassware were thrown
from above to the ground.
He became unstable for a short while
and felt giddy.
The very next moment he gathered courage and
said,” never mind
And never be so upset over this.
In all likelihood
He does not know
That I love you so dearly.”
Dr. Jha looked like a dumb-animal
He was completely caught by surprise
And found himself nowhere.
The line uttered by his father
‘He loves your wealth
And not you’
Rang in his ears for quite
A long time,
And shattered his heart into pieces.
Prerna said,”My Mom is with me,
But she stands nowhere
Before my dad.
I believe,
This is the only cause
Of her illness.
I have lost faith
Not only in my relatives
And family members,
But even in fate and God
Before Dr. Jha could speak
Anything her boss entered the ward
For a round
She had
But to be busy
With her boss,
Ward and works,
Leaving him then and there.
Dr. Jha was non-plussed.
He kept on standing
On the same place
Where Prerna deserted him,
Speechless, lifeless
And like a statue.
But after a while
He left the ward
Against his will,
So that her boss
May not take it for otherwise.
Houseman-ship is the busiest
Hour in doctors’ life.
Everywhere there is
Patient after patient
Problem after problem
Work after work,
Nurses,doctors,
Students and teachers.
His boss wants
Work after work
And takes him for a heartless Robot
Where a machine needs
Diesel, petrol,gentle
Touch and rest
But the house man works
Round the clock
And virtually runs the
Very big hospital
Only by his sweats.
He whispers to himself,
“What a peculiar way of life
At time it rains
Happiness and pleasure
At times pours
Unsolicited tears and miseries.”
But he tries to console himself
By saying ,” A seasoned person is
One who takes both things alike,
And never minds and never looks
Behind into the past.”
The poor fellow
Did not know that
The main source of troubles
In any one’s life
Is one of the three things
A lady, money and power.
He realized at last that
Much wanted thing
Gives much more troubles.
He goes to his ward
With a weeping heart.
It is nearing dark,
The voltage of electricity has
Gone dim in the campus.
The white building looks him pale yellow,
And trees too dark.
He looks to the Ganges
On the bank of which
Dept. of surgery stands
The Ganges looks calm and quiet,
And a faint voice form a distance is heard,
‘ore manjhi, le chal par,
More sajan hai us par,
Man ki kitab se tun
Mera naam hi mita dena,
Goon to nahin tha phir bhi
Abgun mere bhula dena’
He tries hard to listen to but
The sound goes inaudible
He turns his eyes towards the girls’ hostel
At the window of Prerna’s room,
The girls’ hostel is quite adjacent
To RSB and both abut onto
The same road in the campus.
He is restless, helpless and hopeless.
He looks morose, exhausted , weak
And feels himself good for nothing,
He sees a shadow
Behind the curtain
Of the window of Prerna’s room
And apprehended that
Prerna is weeping there.
He looks at the sky.
There is a speck of clouds,
Which is dark and dense,
And looks like a big dragon.
The dragon runs fast
Towards the moon
Not only to hide but
To engulf & devour
He stands
And keeps on staring
At the moon and the dragon,
His heart beats faster and faster
As the dragon goes
Closer and closer.
To the Moon,
The dragon starts engulfing,
His heart starts sinking.
He is sweating profusely.
He feels giddy
Leans against a wall
And falls down on the ground
Loses sense for a while
During his unconciousness
He feels as if he were swimming
Across the sea against the alternating
Tides of Bihary-hood and poverty
The sea water is very very cold
And the mood of the sea very very unkind,
The tide takes him very high
And throws him down very low
One of the tides throws him on a icy rock.
He is helpless, motionless, gasping for breath.
A giant vulture comes, taking him
For a small baby whale, takes
Him off up and up in the sky.
Leaves him high up in the sky
He falls down and down
While falling down
Sees Prerna sitting on a lion
He cries loudly
‘Prerna, You alone can save me’
Prerna holds him in her arms
And tells him ’No need to be
So upset and so nervous
When I am with you
To protect you from all sides
As you hold high regards and complete
Trust in me .
I will never spare the person who
Will even think of harming you.
“I could know the truth
That You are the Goddess Durga”,said Dr. Jha.
‘Ya devi sarvabhutesu
Shakti rupen sansthita
Namastasyey namastasyey
Namastasyey
Namo namah’
One A- grade nurse calls him
‘Doctor. You are here , what has happened
To you?
It thunders
With a very loud clap
And a lightning flashed very sharply
Now he can see everything very clearly
He wakes up to sense.
He says,’’ I am okay,
I have just slipped and fallen down
Nothing is wrong
And nothing to worry.’’
The nurse says, ‘Bed No-17
Has gone very serious
Please hurry up
He runs to the patient
Feels his pulse
Pulpates his abdomen
And ausculatates his chest.
“Sister, the patient is sinking.
He is pulseless and gasping
He has gone in profound shock.
Start Oxygen inhalation,
Inject coramine, mephentine,
Decadron and deriphylline.
50% 50 ml. glucose i/v slowly
And run drips fast,
Raise the foot end of bed
Sister, please hurry up.”
Send a call to S.O.D
And dial P.O.D
And he was compelled
To get lost
In the management
To save the life
Of the gasping patient
Forgetting everything
About himself
And his heart.
To work works more
Than any medicine
And heals wound of any kind,
Without much delay.
P.O.D and S.O.D
Came examined
And left
The ward after advice.
Dr. Jha ,” Sister,
Please connect S.O.C.,
The boss, Dr. Prasad,
And give it to me,
I want to talk
To him personally
Sister,”Sir , please take this,
The Boss is on the line.”
Dr. Jha ,” Good Evening Sir,
I am Dr. Jha
From RSB., P.M.C.H.
Sir, Bed No 17,
Who was operated upon
Yesterday for cholecystectomy,
Has gone very serious
He has become pulseless
And gasping.
I have simply combated the shock.
He has improved a lot
But his pulse is still
Thready and fast,
His B.P. still reads very low
And there is cardiac arrhythmia also
S.O.D & P.O.D
Have just visited
In their opinion
He has developed
acute myocardial infarction
And his prognosis is said to be
Very grave
But, In my opinion
This patient is having only
Post cholecsystectomy complications,
The waltman and walters syndrome
Due to leakage of Bile or blood in
Subhepatic or subphrenic spaces.
I don’t think
Opening of his abdomen
Will be needed,
As he has responded
To simple management
Of his shock
And the drainage of his abdomen
Is adequate, and working well.
Nevertheless, I have informed the O.T.
To keep everything ready
For a laprotomy
And sent his blood
Sample for grouping and matching.
I don’t feel that there is any need to worry
But I will not be satisfied
Unless and until
You see the case personally.”
Boss,”I am reaching there
Within fifteen minutes,
You should not move anywhere
Until I come.”
Dr. Jha,” Sister, I had an urgent work
To meet my girlfriend
Who is in trouble
But I myself was
Entrapped and entangled in troubles
She must be awaiting me.
Our boss never delayed like to-day.”
Sister,” Sir, you know our boss,
Dr. Prasad , fully well.
He will be out of himself,
If he will not find you in the ward.
Our boss is very serious
About his patients and he goes harsh
Not only with his students
But even with the doctors under him.”
Dr. Jha ,”You don’t know that
Our boss is a known academician.
His only concern is
Reading, teaching, research and patients
I have never seen him laugh,
He is a very keen teacher
I have yet to see
A dedicated and devoted teacher like him.”
Sister,” For God’s sake
Please never leave the ward
Until and unless he comes
Sir, If you don’t mind
May I know who your
Girl friend is.”
Dr. Jha ,” Do you know miss Prerna?”
Sister told,” she is well known
To everybody for her
Beautiful personality,
Intelligence and simplicity.
What happened to her.
I know , she is working
In the dept. of Gynae.
If you don’t mind sir ,
I came to know
That she is your sweet heart”
Dr. Jha,” how could you know this?”
Sister,”Sir, In medical
Nothing is secret,
Everything is open
And crystal clear.
Please look here sir,
